My Busy Body

This track will address the learning gap for my students who do not know their body parts. This site will contains base lessons to help kindergarten students in the science content area to learn more about their body parts and the function of each of the major organs. Many online links will allow students to utilize the Internet to explore internal and external parts of the body as they research this topic. This will be an exciting way to utilize technology! Students will use their human senses in this unit and technological models to gather information about the complexities of the internal organs of the body, which meets K-2 standards from the TN Science Curriculum.

This kindergarten Language Arts unit contains lessons to help your students hear and practice rhyming words. Understanding rhyming words help students to identify letter and word patterns. Language Arts Standards K-2 Reading require that students develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text. The Speaking and Listening Standards require that students will express ideas clearly and effectively in a variety of oral contexts and apply active listening skills in the analysis and evaluation of spoken ideas. One K-2 Technology standard states that students will use a variety of technologies to improve classroom learning, increase productivity, and support creativity. These lessons will help students to fulfill these standards.

Celebrating 100 Days of School

This unit celebrating the 100th day of school gives two weeks or activities to prepare students for the celebration! This will address the learning gap in math for my kindergarten students that they cannot count to 100 accurately. It address the TN State Curriculum Standard: Math Standards K-2: NUMBER SENSE AND NUMBER THEORY: In order to develop Number Sense and an understanding of Number Theory, the mathematics curriculum must include problems which require students to recognize, represent, and model real numbers and operations verbally, physically, symbolically, and graphically. Students will have the opportunity to link what they learn in school to what they do outside of school. This will be a very exciting unit.

Make Maps Make Sense

This kindergarten track will help students to understand the use of maps. The K-2 Social Studies Curriculum Frameworks require that students will be able to use maps, globes, and other geographic representations, tools, and technologies to acquire, process, and report information from a spatial perspective. Students also need to demonstrate a basic geographic knowledge through identifying and locating major physical and political features on globes and maps. Through this track students will receive practice on these skills.

Numeral Recognition

Kindergarten students have great difficulty identifying numerals in isolation. The K-2 Math Cluster Number Sense and Number Theory content standard states that through the investigation of meaningful problems, individually or in cooperative groups while using appropriate technology, all students in grades K-2 will be able to: (1)count sets of objects individually or by grouping; (2) relate the use of number in the learners' environment to the study of number; (3) represent whole numbers and fractions concretely, pictorially, and symbolically; Using these lessons, students will participate in many activities that will accomplish these objectives and create a sense of belonging to the numerals, and give them an added desire to successfully identify numerals. This helps students to apply something learned in school to the use of numerals in their everyday life.

This track is designed to give Kindergarten students who are struggling with hearing initial consonant sounds. The TN State Curriculum states the following requirement for Language Arts K-2: The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text.

Teeth Are For Keeps!

This unit will help kindergarten students understand the importance of daily brushing. The K-2 Comprehensive Health Standards state that students need to acquire understanding and develop attitudes and behaviors for preventing and controlling disease. Students also need to understand the consequences of personal actions as they relate to personal, mental, and social health. This unit "Terrific Teeth" will help students to understand that brushing and good dental health is their personal responsibility. This allows them to connect what they learn in school to what they do at home. Teachers will be able to download games that will give students computer practice that reinforces the skills learned in this unit.
