Purpose: Students will compare and contrast the planets and the sun in our solar system. Designed for Grade 8 Middle School class activity. This is designed for a WebQuest activity with accompanying worksheets. Grade Level: (5-9). Prerequisites: 1. Knowledge in using the computer and the Internet. 2. Apply solar system information into its proper context. Objectives: 1. Students will use a scale model to demonstrate the relative distances in the solar system and the relative sizes of the sun and the planets. 2. Students will research the nine planets and the sun and report on their characteristics and features during a trip through the solar system. Rationale: In this Track, the students will discover that most objects we see in the sky are separated from one another by vast, seemingly empty space. Assessment: Using the Internet, students will complete a physical data table of the planets and the sun. Assessment will based on the accuracy of the completed "Exploring the Solar System" activity worksheet.
