<p>Following a reading of <em>The Overcoat</em> by Nicolai Gogol, the class will complete several assignments that focus on the plight of Akakiy Akakievich, and that examine the following themes: man's isolation, the underdog in society, and bureaucratic corruption. </p><p>We will also consider how the elements of the fantastic are woven into this otherwise "realistic" story. </p><p> </p>
