Mesopotamia: Images of Ziggurats
Annotations by Jason Hine
Track #298960
Format: Resource list
This track is designed to get you to associate the definition of "ziggurat" with drawings, diagrams, and photographs of the real thing. Students should visit each of the links and begin to imagine just how important these temples must have been to the people of Mesopotamia. Some guiding questions are, "how large are they? How long might they have taken to build? Do they look different today than they did when the people of Mesopotamia first built them? If you lived in ancient Mesopotamia, how might you have decorated your ziggurat? Your assignment for tonight will be to decorate the picture of the Ziggurat in your "Mesopotamia worksheet packet." You'll want to "bring your picture to life." Remember - often all that remains of these ancient civilizations is stone. However, during the time of their existence, they were decorated and surrounded by life (plants and humans.) They were truly sights to behold. How can you bring your ziggurat "to life"?
