<P>This is a unit designed for 4th grade. We will be looking at the Land Run of 1889 in Oklahoma. It will cover the PASS objectives for Social Studies Standards 1, 4, and 5, Liberal Arts Standards 2, 3, and 5, and Technology. We will be focusing on what area in Oklahoma the Land Run occured, who all participated, and how the people lived. There will be lots of reading. The students will tell their feelings of the Land Run (good, bad, etc..). They will answer questions, and write detailed summary's. </P>
<P>Liberal Arts:</P>
<P>Standard 2- Fluency- The student will identify words rapidly so that attention is directed at the meaning of the text.</P>
<P>Standard 3- Comprehension/Critical Literacy- The student will interact with the words and concepts in a text to construct an appropriate meaning.</P>
<P>Standard 5- Research and Information- The student will conduct research and organize information.</P>
<P>Social Studies:</P>
<P>Standard 1- The student will develop and practice the process skills of social studies.</P>
<P>Standard 4-The student will describe the human systems (e.g., migrations, settlements, cultural mosaics, and economic interdependence) identified with the major regions of the United States, including human interaction with the environment.</P>
<P>Standard 5- The student will demonstrate an understanding of the unique features which contributed to the settlement of the state of Oklahoma.</P>
