Writing Through Storytelling With Mrs. Anderson
Annotations by Peggy Anderson
|
Track #53570
Format: Resource list
|
This unit allows students to realize that they can enjoy telling and listening to stories at an early age. This will help them learn to create stories in later grades. Most children enjoy telling stories as much as they enjoy listening to them. This unit is designed to help them become more comfortable and learn to relax so they can let stories unfold naturally and creatively. Most student in Kindergarden love to express themselves but sometimes find it hard to appear in front of peers to do it. This unit helps them identify parts of a story as it is told. Through the use of this unit students will be able to use what they learn in school at home and elsewhere. This lets the students think of ways to tell others what they have learned.

Children need to communicate, speak and listen to others throughout their lives. The Tennessee Curriculum Standard states that students will express ideas clearly and effectively in a variety of oral contexts and apply active listening skills in the analysis and evaluation of spoken ideas. Through the use of this unit, students will be able to express ideas clearly, apply active listening skills and communicate with adults and other students in the library. Students will be able to demonstrate comprehension by retelling a story that is told to them. Students will be able to relate what they learn in school to the outside world. Track #24222
Format: Resource list

Due to the fact that Mexico is a close neighbor of ours and more Mexican people are coming into our neighborhoods, I felt like students needed to be aware fo backgrounds involved. This unit was chosen because it helped students realize that everyone lives in an environment and that people need shelter according to culture and environment. The Tennessee Curriculum Standard History K-2 states that students will exhibit an understanding of the dynamic interaction between human and physical systems around the world. This unit let the students realize and see the many similarities and differences between families in Mexico and their own families.
