Molly's Pigrim
Annotations by Shelia Jolly
Track #38319
Format: Resource list
My students have limited exposure to multi- ethnic cultures. They do not compare/contrast ideas or themes. Molly's Pilgrim sites address these deficiencies through the use of dolls and the story itself to provide lessons for students to gain knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become contributing citizens in our democracy-Civics and Government Standard 5: Students will gain knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become contributing citizens in our participatory democracy. It addresses Profiler question 6 by allowing them to think of different ways to tell others what they have learned through discussions, writing a letter and creation of a pilgrim doll. To achieve these goals, the learner will: -categorize dolls brought from home. -discuss examples of prejudice from the story. -compare/contrast Molly's life in NYC and Winter Hill. -identify cultural contributions of many people. -define words immigrant, descendent, freedom, prejudice, and persecution.
