Learning Division
Annotations by Terri Maples
Track #55113
Format: Resource list
The stated Learning gap is division 0-9 facts. The unit "Learning Division" was chosen because it combines memorization of division facts with application of problems. The 4th grade Math / 3-5 cluster In order to develop understanding of Estimation, Measurement, and Computation, the mathematics curriculum should include problems which require students to apply appropriate tools and units of measurement, to develop effective estimation and computation strategies for producing reasonable results, and to calculate using appropriate tools such as mental mathematics, technology, manipulatives, and pencil-and-paper. I chose this unit because it allowed me to use the Internet in my class to answer questions or practice skills on line and to help my children try something that is difficult to do as described in the Profiler teacher Usage Survey. Learning Expectations:
articulate the relationships among the four arithmetic operations:
select a notation and justify its appropriateness for a particular situation;
demonstrate an understanding of order relationships for fractions, decimals, and whole numbers using physical, verbal, and symbolic representations;
recognize and apply the properties of whole numbers and their operations;
demonstrate understanding of equivalent forms of rational numbers.

Little House in the Big Woods
Annotations by Terri Maples
Track #47653
Format: Resource list
The stated learning gap is reading comprehension. The unit Little House in the Big Woods was chosen because it requires the students to read a novel as a class and then practice skills on-line. The fourth grade Language Arts 3-5 cluster Reading content standard states that the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text. I chose this unit because it allows students to read the novel then practice the skills as outlined in the online unit completing the outlined activities and visiting the online links to complete the research of the unit. This will address the teacher profiler pre-survey items of increasing student use of the Internet for research and for practicing skills on-line.
