Track #62782
Format: Extended learning
The stated learning gap is reading comprehension. This unit, "Folk Tales", was chosen because it will help students meet the curriculum standard of word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation and appreciation of the written text. The students will read stories that are familiar to them and then complete activities that require them to recall facts and details, compare and contrast various aspects of the stories, and identify main ideas. It also introduces them to stories from around the world in order to develop an interest in multicultural and ethnically diverse literature.

Track #53748
Format: Resource list
The stated learning gap is comprehension of written text. The unit "Sign of the Beaver" allows students to read a high interest book and then integrates the social studies, language arts, and math curriculum with reading through follow-up lessons. Under the the Tennessee Curriculum Framework, Reading: Grades 3-5 Learning Expectations, students will improve comprehension by interpreting, analyzing, syntheizing, and evaluating written text. Also, students will use comprehension strategies to enhance understanding, to make predictions, and to respond to literature.
