My students have difficulties when they read a story and then write about it. The unit "Sarah, Plain and Tall" was chosen because it allows my students to read a story and write about it. The Tennessee Curriculum Framework Content Standard for Language Arts for Grades 3-5 Writing states: The student will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences. The Tennessee Curriculum Framework Content Standard for Language Arts for Grades 3-5 Reading states: The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text.<br><br>Learning expectations are:<br><br>The student will write frequently for a variety of purposes such as narration, description, and personal, creative expression.<br>The student will improve comprehension by interpreting, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating written text.<br>The student will read independently for a variety of purposes.<br>The student will continue to respond actively and imaginatively to literature.<br>The student will use comprehension strategies to enhance understanding, to make predictions, and to respond to literature.<br><br>I chose this unit because it allows my student #4 to try tasks that seem hard to do and #24 use Internet in my class to answer questions or practice skills online as stated in the Profiler teacher Usage Survey.

As a reading teacher of fourth grade students, I have found many of my student have difficulty determining the genre of a book or story. A TN Curriculum Framework Content for Language Arts Standards for Grades 3-5 is: The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text.<br><br> Learning expectations for this standard include the following:<br> The student will improve comprehension by interpreting, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating written text.<br>The student will identify literary genres.<br><br>This unit will also help with the areas on the pre-survey that indicate that #9 my students ask questions that help themselves and others understand a topic better and my students use Internet in my class to answer questions or practice skills on line.
