Track #64504
Format: Resource list
|
This Track was chosen for a reading comprehension special education class. All of the students were reading at least one grade level below their grade. The unit addresses the curriculum standard for language arts, grades 3-5, which states, "The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the text." The students used the Internet to research topics, answered questions after reading the book, Sarah, Plain and Tall, used context clues to enhance comprehension, recognized and interpreted figurative language, and learned the meaning of vocabulary words. The questions from the Pre-Survey, #7, 10, 19, and 22, were considered in the choice of activities. These allowed students to think of different ways to tell others what they had learned, spot important facts, concepts, and vocabulary of new material, recognize important facts, and use the Internet to answer questions or practice skills online.
