This track will present students in 5th and 6th grade special education language arts that are unable to effectively read and comprehend written text in reading with the opportunity to increase reading, reading comprehension and writing skills through the completion of several activities using the book "The Hundred Penny Box." This track addresses the curriculum standard that states that the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text. During the process of working on this track, the student will make a penny box containing a penny for each year of his or her life.

This track addresses the following Content Standard of the Tennessee Curriculum Framework; Math, Grades 3-5. ESTIMATION, MEASUREMENT, AND COMPUTATION: In order to develop understanding of Estimation, Measurement, and Computation, the mathematics curriculum should include problems which require students to apply appropriate tools and units of measurement, to develop effective estimation and computation strategies for producing reasonable results, and to calculate using appropriate tools such as mental mathematics, technology, manipulatives, and pencil-and-paper.
