The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Annotations by Mika Harris
Track #58989
Format: Resource list
The stated learning gap is difficulty expressing ideas clearly and applying active listening skills. The Curriculum Standard for the 3-5 speaking and listening grade cluster states that the students will express ideas clearly and effectively in a variety of oral contexts and apply active listening skills in the analysis and evaluation of spoken ideas. I chose the unit The Very Hungry Caterpillar because my 3rd grade special education students will be required during our reading lesson to listen to the story in order to answer questions about the story as well as predict what will happen next as described in Teacher Presurvey Questions # 6 and 14.
2.
Sign of the Beaver Unit
Annotations by Mika Harris
Track #48745
Format: Resource list
The stated learning gap is difficulty decoding unknown words. The unit Sign of the Beaver was chosen because it requires the students to read from the chapter book. The 3-5 grade cluster Reading content standard tells us that the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation and appreciation of the written text. I chose the Sign of the Beaver unit because it challenges my 4th grade special education students to use the Internet to explore the topic based on this chapter book to improve their decoding skills as addressed in teacher pre-survey question #22.
3.
Charlotte's Web
Annotations by Mika Harris
Track #36348
Format: Resource list
The stated learning gap is difficulty decoding unknown words. The unit Charlotte's Web was chosen because it requires the students to read from the chapter book, Charlotte's Web. The 3-5 cluster Reading content standard states that the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation and appreciation of the written text. I chose this unit because it allows my students to use the Internet to explore Charlotte's Web in an effort to improve their decoding skills as addressed in teacher pre-survey question #22.
