This track teaches students measurement including telling time, and how to use both the metric and customary systems to measure length, volume, and mass. This unit correlates with the Tennessee Framework Standard: ESTIMATION, MEASUREMENT, AND COMPUTATION: In order to develop understanding of Estimation, Measurement, and Computation, the mathematics curriculum should include problems which require students to apply appropriate tools and units of measurement, to develop effective estimation and computation strategies for producing reasonable results, and to calculate using appropriate tools such as mental mathematics, technology, manipulatives, and pencil-and-paper.

This track includes vocabulary, questions, and activities to use with the book The Chocolate Touch. Students will learn how chocolate is made, the history of chocolate, and some chocolate trivia. This track focuses on the following Tennessee Content Standard from the Reading: Grades 3-5 section: The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text.

This track is designed to go along with the book How to Eat Fried Worms, a humorous book about a bet. Billy will earn $50.00 if he can eat 15 worms in 15 days. The objective of this unit is for students to become better readers through a book which students will find hilarious. This book is also rich in vocabulary. The first site below contains exceptional online practice activities with the vocabulary found in How to Eat Fried Worms. The study of earthworms and using the theme of earthworms for journal writing are also included in this unit. This unit teaches the Tennessee Framework Standard for Grades 6-8: The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text.

Dinosaurs

This track encourages students to use their imaginations to create a classification system for dinosaurs. Serveral writing activities with the theme of dinosaurs are also included. This unit teaches the skills from the Tennessee Curriculum Framework: Language Arts Grades 3 - 5 Content Standard: The student will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences.
