Although the town where Cass lives has long been legally integrated, there are still fences to cross in social relations. USA Today called Adrian Fogelin's first book, Crossing Jordan, a "sensitive portrait of black-white relations in a changing neighborhood." The American Library Association named this book to its Best Books for Young Adults list. Crossing Jordan also has been nominated for a Georgia Children's Book Award as well as other awards.
