 Track Description
In surveying 6th, 7th and 8th grade students concerning computer usage, I discovered that a majority of them were unfamiliar with basic terminology and many had never used the Internet to locate information for research purposes. The goals as outlined by State Standards states students will use technology as a tool to conduct and evaluate research to communicate effectively information and ideas. By teaching this unit, the learning expectation for this standard, use the Internet as a tool for research is addressed. Students will learn how to research topics using Internet by completing a variety of activities. The Standard for Computer Technology addresses students using technology resources to develop problem solving strategies, improve decision-making, and support real world applications. This Internet unit also meets the learning expectations for this standard. The student will develop a strategy for performing a task and analyze tasks to determine appropriateness of use of computers for problems solving such as searching.
