 Track Description
The diets of many Australian children are high in sugary, salty, fatty foods – exactly those foods which scientists have discovered to be related to many health problems in childhood as well as later in life. This nutrition unit has two main goals: 1. To increase children’s awareness of where food comes from and 2. To give them guidelines in choosing nutritious foods. It will present information about food and nutrition, and the effects of nutrition in students’ lives by allowing students to expand their knowledge of nutrition by using the Internet. Once students learn the content of the food groups, they will be better prepared to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle. They will understand the importance of eating well-balanced meals. Students will explore the Food Guide Pyramid and learn about making good nutritional choices. The students will also demonstrate their knowledge of the digestive system and the related nutrition essential to understanding the elements of a proper diet. They will identify the parts of the digestive system.
