Track Description
8th Graders lack basic knowledge of American History, major events, people, & places that have formed our country. This track provides an interesting assortment of activities which will involve students to make history come alive for them. By "meeting & interviewing" American historical figures, students gain a different perspective of history. Students will gain a new appreciation of people & events in the past along with the impact or difference they have made in our American way of life. This track addresses the 6-8 Social Studies History Standard which states that "students will exhibit a knowledge of history, identifying & describing major events, people, & trends". The activities also address several Profiler Survey goals including students learning something as completely as they can, finding ways to use what is learned, & using the Internet to practice skills online. The ideas in this track are ideally suited to a 2-week unit, but could also be applied to a year long departmentalized American History classroom.
