In this unit students will become familiar with different poetry forms by reading about them, writing poems of their own in each form, and publishing those poems on the internet. Technology is used to enhance the learning and practice of several poetry forms. After practicing poetry forms online, students will create a classroom poetry book that includes work from all students. Students will need access to a word processor to create this final project. It may be helpful for students to spend some time writing in journals to prepare for this unit. They will also find it useful to write in those journals for the duration of the unit. Each "page" could be used in one lesson or for a longer period of time as part of a writing or language arts class involving poetry.
