Track Description
Teacher observations have determined that students have the misconception that if information is on the web, then it must be "true". Students have difficulty discerning valid web sites to use when doing research. This track will teach students how to evaluate Web sites. The unit addresses the Computer Technology: Literacy and Usage, 9-12, Personal Computing number two standard: The student will develop skills using a variety of computer resources to increase productivity, support creativity, conduct and evaluate research, and improve communication. Another standard is English III (9-12) Viewing and Representing; The student will use, read and view media/technology and analyze content and concepts accurately.
Learning expectations for these standards include the following: The student will access and demonstrate multiple technological reference sources; Research, interpret, critique, and present information from print and non-print media; Analyze the advantages and limitations of the computer as a communication tool. The student will recognize the difference between fact and opinion. Technology learning expectations are as follows: The student will utilize telecommunication software for data research.
