Track Description
CRS may be used across curriculum to strengthen comprehension among struggling readers. CRS encompasses several teaching strategies from direct, indirect, and cooperative groups. Students are led to preview the material.
Preview: suggest how the previews of a movie suggest content, so does the preview in reading material.
Click and Clunk: when students' understanding flow they are in the "click" zone". However, when they come upon an area that is difficult this is called the "clunk". Students are encouraged to identify clunks and help each other through the tough area using prior knowledge. (ex. prefix, suffix, context clues, etc.)
Get the Gist: "Get the Gist" is a two-fold part. Student are first to restate in thier own words what they thought was the most important idea was in the passage. Then, students will read their "gist" and get positive feedback from the group to improve the detail of the "gist".
Wrap-up: As a closure activity students will demonstrate what they've learned by developing questions whose answers would demonstate the what has been learned. (stress the 5 w's in forming questions)
