 Track Description
"Why do we have to learn these stupid vocabulary words?" This probably sounds familiar to many teachers. This unit is designed to have a great deal of flexibility for the teacher. The students will develop vocabulary through a fun activity using context clues, take on-line quizzes, and use an on-line dictionary and thesaurus, etc. The activities in this track can be used with a new set of words each week. A teacher could develop a 6-week unit with this track, or he/she could develop a whole year's curriculum. Learning gap addressed in this unit: "My students have demonstrated difficulties in the area of reading comprehension." This unit will allow students to practice and take tests on the computer. Students will be more motivated to develop the reading skills necessary for academic success than would the normal paper and pencil activities. These activities also allow them to learn reading skills, which will help them in other school subjects. This unit will also allow student improvements in the collaborative use of the internet by answering questions and practicing skills online.(Question #23 &24 on Teacher survey) > From the Tennessee Curriculum Framework the following standard is addressed in this unit. The student will develop the reading skills necessary for work recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text.
