 Track Description
Helps students to learn to look at web pages with a critical eye, examining them for credibility. Addresses TN Curriculum Standards in Language Arts: Viewing and Representing: "The student will use, read, and view media/technology and analyze content and concepts accurately." Reading: "The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text" and Computer/Technology #6: "The student will use technology as a tool to conduct and evaluate research and to communicate effectively information and ideas." The relevant LE's for these standards are "Extend the use of the computer as a research and communication tool," Use cognitive strategies to evaluate text critically," and "Use a variety of computer technologies to...access, analyze, interpret, synthesize, apply and communicate information in content areas," respectively. It pertains to survey items #1,5,6,10, and 12 in that students will be using at least two sets of evaluation criteria; students will be looking at web sites to learn all they can about the page itself (learning completely); they will practice evaluating pages using worksheet guides; they will be looking for the important facts and will be introduced to the vocabulary involved; and they will be able to use the critical methods they have learned in evaluating web pages and other media as they do research for other classes.
