Track Description
This unit is a tool for teaching beginners to create PowerPoint presentations as a means of communicating ideas or displaying what they have learned. Fills the stated learning gap because the ultimate product of this lesson will be PowerPoint presentations created by students who had no previous experience with the program. Addresses TN Computer/Technology Curriculum Standard #\'s 5 and 6 because students will be using technology as a productivity tool and for communicating knowledge and ideas. The specific LE\'s for these standards state that \"The student will use a variety of technologies to improve classroom learning, increase productivity, and support creativity,\" and that the students should be able to \"Design, develop, publish and present products (e.g. web pages and video tapes) individually and collaboratively to demonstrate investigation of curriculum related problems, issues and information.\" Pertains to at least 6 of the survey items (#\'s 1,4,7,12,15, and 16) since students will be learning a different way to communicate knowledge and ideas; PowerPoint will be entirely new to them, but they are eager to learn it; students can use PowerPoint as a different way to tell others what they have learned; they will be able to use PowerPoint in other school subjects; they will learn that PowerPoint is a powerful productivity tool used extensively in business and industry; they will discover that PowerPoint presentations are sometimes the best way to demonstrate what they know about a subject.
