Track Description
The stated learning gap is the lack of understanding in intermediate students of how their interests can mold their career opportunities. They also are not knowledgeable about the broad range of careers available. The unit Career Projects was chosen because it introduces students to interest inventories that will help them identify career areas in which they might have a meaningful work experience. It then requires them to research on the web the educational requirements, the projected availability, salary levels, and skill requirements of careers in which they might show an interest. The Framework for the Tennessee School Counseling Program includes the domain of Career Development. One of the Intermediate Student Standards is Planning for the Future. Student Competencies for that standard include exploring interests and different occupations. I chose this unit because it allows the students to do various projects that address the stated competencies.
