Track Description
This unit, "Paper Bag Reports," will address the reading gap for my 8th graders that students will develop structural and creative skills necessary to produce written and oral language that can be read or heard and interpreted by various audiences. The unit will address this gap by giving students a variety of appropriate organizational strategies to develop writing and speaking on various topics. It relates to the TN Curriculum Frameworks Standard, "The students will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text," by having them analyze the book and report to the class. It will directly address Survey Item #10 "I spot the important facts, concepts and vocabulary when I am learning something new." Students will have to identify important facts, learn new vocabulary words, and interpret these for use in an oral report.
