Track Description
This track was created to stimulate my third graders to read more. This unit looks closely at a type of literature that provides the students with challenging activites that can be completed individually or in groups. By exposing the children to a different genre, we help to develop their reading appreciation. Mysteries require the children to organize and classify information that will enable them to interpret the events in the plot. They will have to learn how to evaluate details and read carefully for comprehension of facts. Their analytical skills will develop as they combined the inferred information with other pertinent details from the plot and with their character descriptions. The students will have to use the writing process to identify topics and plan a mystery story. This will afford them additional practice in the maechanics of writing also. This is an excellent unit for rising fourth grade students, great for this time of year, late third grade.
