 Track Description
The Holocaust unit focusing on the book THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK and a short story by Meip Gies "Anne Frank Remembered" is more than a history lesson. This unit is an investigation of human behavior. It provides a path by which the students can put the events of the Holocaust into a historical perspective. This unit will create an awareness of the harm in stereotyping, prejudice, propaganda, and racism. It raises questions of fairness, justice, blaming and indifference. These are issues 8th graders face daily. This unit will heighten students abilities to have empathy for those who have suffered because of injustices. "We cannot change what happened anymore. The only thing we can do is to learn from the past and to realize what discrimination and persecution of innocent people means. I believe that it's everyone responsiblilty to fight prejudice." A quote by Otto Frank in 1970.
