Track Description
This unit lesson covers the following goal and learning objective from the TN Curriculum Framework: Number Sense and Number Theory - The learner will demonstrate an understanding of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals through the use of technology and physical, pictorial, and symbolic representations. This lesson's learning objective is - the learner will understand what a decimal represents. This lesson gives students a hands-on manipulative to aid in their understanding of the relationship between fractions, decimals and percents. This objective is always hard for students to master on the TCAP test. Another lesson I plan on using with this is M&M Fractions. My students have already visited the M&M internet site, which helped them with their estimations on how many M&Ms they had in their own pack. Estimation is a higher-order thinking skill. We plan to e-mail this site with our own results, (for example which color of M&M made up most of the packages in our class). We also plan to e-mail Dr. Math from the Math Forum with some of our students questions about decimals, percents and fractions.
