 Track Description
In this unit students will learn about synonyms and antonyms and how to use them. The objective is that the students will use a word bank to select synonyms and antonyms for two sets of words. It specifically addresses the stated learning gap which states that my fourth grade remedial reading students can not identify or substitute antonyms or synonyms. It also addresses the grade level 3-5 language arts content standards which state that the student will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences; and the student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretaion , analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text. I chose this unit because it enables my students to learn this skill as completely as they can; to get them to try tasks that may seem hard to do; and to think of different ways to express themselves to tell others what they have learned (from the teacher pre-survey).
