 Track Description
The student will be able to empathize with the effect of exploration and colonization on the Native American people. The students will read the book,entitled, "The People Shall Continue", an epic story of Native American People, from the creation to the present day. The teacher should read the book aloud, and discuss it with students. Standard 1: Students will exhibit a knowledge of history identifying and describing major events, people, and trends. To achieve this standard, the learner will: Identify people who lived in the United States prior to exploration and colonization. Explain why explorers came from many nations seeking new routes to the Orient. Distinguish the religious, economic, and political reasons for colonizing North America. Recognize how the thirteen English colonies developed. Examine the conflicts between the British and the colonies that led to war and independence. Recognize how expansion of the new nation created conflict in North America. Examine the roles and contributions made by African-Americans and other minority groups in American history.
