 Track Description
Through teacher assessment and preparation for the 2000 T-CAPS Writing Assessment, I have found that my fourth grade students demonstrate a need for further study on the topic of writing a descriptive paragraph. The Tennessee Curriculum Framework Content Standard for Writing (Grades 3-5) states, "The student will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences." In preparing this unit for my fourth grade students, I want to have them begin to identify and write for a variety of audiences, use elements of the writing process as appropriate to the writing task, practice a variety of prewriting activities to generate and organize ideas, use appropriate organizational strategies to develop writing, including main and supporting ideas, and to demonstrate effective writing styles by the use of vivid words, varied sentences, and appropriate transitions.
