The standard states that third graders will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences. The students will write and illustrate a book for a specific group. The students will also learn and demonstrate five different steps in the writing process. They will write for a purpose by adding creative illustrations to tell and enhance a story. The students will design and create their own magazine centered around a theme of their choice. The students will also choose their audience and write an original short story using computer software to insert pictures and then they will present their finished product.
