Track Description
The stated learning gap is that 8th grade students do not know about many key issues of The Civil Rights Movement. Therefore, these sites were chosen to increase students' learning and critical thinking skills. Standard 2, under Civics and Government states, "Students will be able to analyze, interpret, and evaluate the rights, responsibilities, and privileges of citizens living in a democratic society."
During this study of the Civil Rights Movement students will analyze citizens' rights under the constitution and identify events and issues. They will investigate what they could do as "normal"citizens someday compared to what a "normal" citizen such as Rosa Parks did. This is to show them what a difference one person can make. Also, this unit includes educational online mystery games in connection with the Civil Rights Movement the students will enjoy playing.
