This unit on Peaceable Schools deals with how understanding personality types can help avoid conflict and help to create harmonious relationships. School violence is a crucial area that I feel needs to be dealt with starting on an elementary level. Student will learn to deal with their own emotions, good and bad, and also learn how to respond to others. This unit addresses the following Content Standard: The student will understand the importance of a positive self-concept, interpersonal relaionships and the relationships of sound social, emotional and mental health practices to wellness. The achieve this standard, the learner will: describe how feelings affect behavior, appreciate individuals for qualities which make them unique, recognize the importance of being tolerant of self and others, demonstrate understanding of decision-making skills realize that people react differently in same situations, practice nonabrasive behaviors toward others, demonstrate awareness of individual and cultural differences, assess the effects of prejudices and discrimination, develop skills needed for conflict resolution.
