 Track Description
Junior High students are familiar with the parts of speech, but they still need practice using them. This unit contains various activities to practice their grammar. The Tennessee Language Arts/Writing Content Standard of developing the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences is applied in this unit. It also addresses the learning expectation of recognizing and demonstrating knowledge of standard English: usage, mechanics, spelling, and sentence structure by identifying the parts of speech in the poem "Jabberwocky". It identifies the learning expectations of developing organized writing containing focused, well-developed ideas; identifying and using rescources to revise and edit writing; and demonstrating effective writing style by the use of vivid words, varied sentences, and appropriate transitions. It also address the student profiler of using the Internet in class to answer questions and practice skills on line.
