 Track Description
This track provides the history of poetry slams and how the phenomenon can be used to foster creative writing skills, dramatic theatre performance, and public speaking in youth. The resources reflect lesson plans on how to employ poetry slams as a means to meet national and local educational standards. Students can even film their performances and post them on the internet to share with people around the world. A six-time poetry slam champion in the United States and France, Bonnie MacAllister has taught poetry slam and public speaking workshops. She has also enclosed the resource "Dead Drunk Dublin and Other Imaginal Spaces" as a starting resource for students to understand modern international poets, many of whom are slam poets.
