Track Description
Students will select a quote from research that has meaning for them dealing with the Holocaust or prejudice. They will transform the quote into a poem. The passage must be at least two sentences long but no longer than five sentences. They can add no words of their own, except for a title. They may not abridge or paraphrase the passage. They must decide in advance which words will matter the most in their poetic expression of the text. Will they use key words to start or end lines? Which phrases will gain impact by standing on lines alone? Which phrases will benefit by being stretched over two or more lines? The poems will be electronically produced using appropriate font, graphics, etc. and printed out. Sites for students to find quotations are included in this Track.
