 Track Description
Many fourth grade students have difficulty identifying adjectives and using adjectives in writing paragraphs. This learning gap was identified by evaluating Spring 2000 TCAP scores. This track is a unit on using adjectives in descriptive writing. The goal of the unit is for students to improve writing skills by including descriptive adjectives in writing. Students will use many senses to experience the rain forest, then use those experiences to write compositions describing sights, sounds, and other factual information about the rain forest gathered in the unit. This Track meets TN Curriculum Framework Content for Language Grades 3-5 Standard: The student will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences. Learning expectations for this standard include the following: The student will use the Internet to research rain forest topics; the students will write personal narratives using descriptive adjectives that reflect their thoughts about the rain forest.
