Track Description
This track will help students learn more about the world around them, The students
will use various activities to learn about the Earth, maps, and the physical features of the
Earth. Students will be doing various activities using this track. An overview of
some of the many activites that students will be doing are: drawing, labeling,
making models, learning new vocabulary, and reading maps. My learning gap that this
track will address is: that seventy-two percent of my sixth graders do not have basic map skills.
The lessons in this track will help my students to bridge this gap in their social
studies learning. The four learning expectations that my students should achieve are:
Students will learn about places on around the world by doing research on
different types of maps. This learning expectation also agrees with survey items
in both the teacher and student survey of using the Internet for research.
Students will learn the placement of the continents by painting them on a model.
Students will be able to use and read maps.
Students will locate, draw, and label physical features on a map.
