This online unit, although it is a music related unit, will assist in aleviating the learning gap for this fifth grade language arts class which states that the students experience difficulty in organizing their thoughts and putting them down on paper. This unit requires the students to do online research throught a scavenger hunt and log their results for further comparison. Through the process of doing this, they begin to develop organizational skills through the physical act of writing the results. This meets the requirements of the stated State Standard for Grs. 3-5 Language Arts which states that students will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences. The two teacher pre-survey items that most influenced the decision to use this unit stated that my students use the Internet to research topics and to answer questions or practice skills online.
