After reading the paragraphs of my fifth graders and reviewing the writing competency test that they took in fourth grade, I found that most of them experienced difficulty in writing organized paragraphs. This unit will provide practice in improving their writing skills. This unit addresses the Language Arts Standar, grades 3-5 Cluster in Writing: The student will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can read and interpreted by various audiences. The Learning Expectations for this standard include the following:The student will demonstrate effective writing style by the use of vivid words, varied sentences, and appropriate transition and the student will use appropriate organizational strategies to develop writing, including main ideas and supporting details.
