 Track Description
Track-A-Day
In this lesson the students will read the book "Amelia Bedelia" by Peggy Parish and demonstrate comprehension through several activities. Learning objective: the student will recall and list information from the book, "Amelia Bedelia" by Peggy Parish; and then demonstrate an understanding of the meaning of the story by interpreting the actual meaning of at least eight directions given by Mrs. Rogers; and finally applying his/her understanding of the story by rewriting these directions in a way that Amelia Bedelia will understand. It was chosen because together with the book it will help the children to improve their reading and understanding skills. It reflects the third grade level Content Standard: The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text. I chose this unit to use the Internet in my class to practice these skills and to practice the Profiler teacher Usage Survey items: My students think about their best skills and use them to complete a task; my students think of different ways to tell others what they have learned; my students connect what they learn in school to what they do outside of school; and my students are willing to try tasks that seem hard to do.
