Track Description
This unit addresses the learning gap with a variety of different learning stratgies. The unit focuses on the student's prior knowledge of story elements: setting, characters, plot, problems and solutions. The fairy tales are read by the students to illustrate and model the components of stories.The students will look at traditional fairy tales and compare and contrast them with other tales that have been adapted or rewritten. The TN Language Art Grade 3-5 Curriculum state, "The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text." The students will rewrite a familar or favorite fairy tale. The students will rewrite and change the ending of a fairy tale. The students will demostrate their understanding of authors-point-of-view by rewriting a fairy tale from a main characters point-of-view. The students will create, write, edit and illustrate their fairy tale. Language Arts Framework Grade 3-5 Writing standard states: The student will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences.
