Track Description
My fourth grade students lack an understanding of the Civil War and how it relates to slavery. My students were unalbe to correctly identify elements dealing with the Civil War and slavery. This track addresses the learning gap my students have in this time period and is a wonderful place to introduce concepts of the Civil War and slavery. The studnts will: identify at least seven vocabulary words including slavery and associate them with the American Civil War, identify major battles, and design their own flag. The track also aligns with the 3-5 Social Studies Curriculum Framework which states: Students will exhibit a knowledge of history identifying and describing major events, people, and trends. The track also addresses survey question 16: My students understand how they can best demonstrate what they know about topics.
