Track Description
My students have difficulty describing and using information they have read. The students do not do well on tests involving Reading Strategies. Because so many of my students are good oral readers yet have such a difficult time with comprehension, I have created this unit to give them some creative, fun ways to improve their comprehension skills. Students The Tennessee Curriculum Framework Standard for Grades 3-5 for Language Arts states: The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of the written text. Students will be interpretating stories and pictures to write an appropriate caption, writing questions for stories they have read, and analyzing character traits among many other activities to help them be more successful in reaching this standard. In Survey Question 7 students are to think of different ways to tell others what they have learned and this unit encourages students to do this in many different ways. Since we will be using the newspaper to do some of the activities, I hope my students will see a relationship between the importance of comprehenison not just in a school setting but in real life.
