Track Description
The title of the Unit is Creating a Book Using Words with High Phonectic Utility. I chose this unit because it encourages my students to try tasks that seem hard to do as addressed in the pre-survey. The third grade learner will decode unknown words, apply regular phonetic rules to words they construct, create collage illustrations and practice their spelling words both verbally and written in a fun and fashionable manner. The curriculum standard is that the student will express ideas clearly and effectively in a variety of oral contexts and apply active listening skills in the analysis and evaluation of spoken ideas. The student will develop the structural and creative skills necessary to produce written language that can be read and interpreted by various audiences. The learning gap is that students have demonstrated difficulties in being able to make good grades on the spelling portion of the Terra Nova test. I chose this unit because I thought it would be a good start in letting the students see how words are put together. In the unit the teacher assessment is an on-going process. Teacher observations and small group discussions will determine what modifications are made during the lesson and for the next day. The assessment of the student's project is determined by a rubic.
