Track Description
If you are ever faced with a bunch of middle school students who don't want to be in music class and/or are not used to learning in music class, then this site is for you. This track contains four lessons that satisfy your desire to teach useful information while satisfying your students' desire to have fun. This unit is designed to promote retention of knowledge and performance opportunities for middle school students studying music notation for the first time in general music class. After teaching music notation to students this track gives the teacher 2 fun games to trick students into recalling what they studied while enjoying themselves. After the students are comfortable with music notation, there are two activities for musical performance using their music notation skills. This track meets the following standards from the TN Curriculum Framework Standard for Music Education Grade 6: the students should be able to 1. Read whole, half, quarter, eighth, sixteenth, and dotted notes and rests, 2. Develop skills in playing selected two- and three- part music on classroom instruments, and 3. Compose short pieces within specified guidelines, demonstrating how the elements of music are used to achieve unity and variety.
