 Track Description
This track was developed to enhance reading comprehension skills and the story elements predicting; making generalizations; summarizing; plot; inferences; characterization; setting; and the author's purpose for writing. This learning gap was identified through teacher administered tests; daily practice exercises; and Terra Nova Standardized test scores which revealed a decline over a 2 year period. The Tennessee Curriculum Framework Standard for the Language Arts 3-5 cluster states: The student will develop the reading skills necessary for word recognition, comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and appreciation of written text. Learning expectations for the standard requires students to improve comprehension by interpreting, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating written text; use comprehension strategies to enhance understanding, to make predictions, and to respond to literature; develop skills in making inferences and recognizing unstated assumptions; and identify and interpret figurative language. This track will also address student survey questions dealing with *students asking questions that will help themselves and others understand a topic, deciding which tasks are most important to solve a problem and putting them in the right order. Students will also research topic on the Internet.
