 Track Description
Students will be able to distinguish different cultures by their character traits as they study different countries around the world. They will be looking at cultutal traditions, different foods, housing, rituals, family, government, etc. Students will compare and contrast cultural traits of diverse groups and relate the differences to their own lives. The social studies standard says that students will identify and demonstrate an understanding of the cultures and human patterns of places and regions of the world, but my students did not have the ability to relate to the importance of past and present cultures. According to the survey questions, the students were willing to try different things, but did not realize how others' points of view or opinions can make a difference in their lives. In talking with the students at the end of the post-survey, they agreed they could integrate all types of learning into their lives to help them connect school, work, and daily life. They have become amazed at how much in our everyday present life has been passed down from other cultures. Other's acceptance of cultural differences in the answer to survival.
